A refugee-led initiative to work with municipalities to co-develop innovative approaches to integration, participation and urban development.
Neue Nachbarn Arnsberg (New Neighbours Arnsberg) is a new form of coproduction where refugees help the municipality to become better at what it does. The project will promote contact between the “new” citizens of Arnsberg, who arrive as refugees, and the “old” locals, who will work together on a voluntary basis to develop the city in cooperation with the city administration. The refugees help themselves and their fellow refugees to settle in more quickly, to learn German, to understand the city, to find their occupational bearings and to actively participate – the refugees support the city and the urban development process and increase the level of integration in the city overall. Refugees become new citizens and new neighbours: they are transformed from recipients of aid to helpers and from people who are being looked after to active stakeholders.
